    • Pull-off adhesion testing is a method of measuring the resistance of a coating to separation from a substrate when a perpendicular tensile force is applied. There are range of substrate materials that the testing is usually performed on, including metals, plastics, concrete, wood and glass.

The X-Cut (Method A) and Cross Hatch/Cross-Cut (Method B) adhesion tests (ASTM D3359/ISO-2409) assess paint/coating adhesion to metallic substrates. Method B creates a lattice pattern (6 or 11 cuts) on coatings under 250 µm, while X-cut uses two intersecting lines. Adhesion is evaluated by tape removal.

        • The ASTM D4541 and ISO 4624 standards define the procedure for measuring the pull-off strength (adhesion) of a coating by applying a perpendicular tensile force to a loading fixture, commonly known as a dolly. While similar, ASTM D4541 specifically focuses on portable adhesion testers, whereas ISO 4624 is a broader international standard for paints and varnishes
